Rolypoly Family's approach to dance and movement is grounded in these 3 principles:

  • Movement Improvisation

  • Safe Physical Contact

  • Respectful Facilitation

As teaching and performing artists, we bring to our programmes our expertise in facilitation, our training in pedagogy, and of course, our experience in and passion for dance, movement improvisation and performance.

In addition, participating in our programmes contributes to the social-emotional well-being of children, especially in the areas of self awareness, positive self concept and social awareness. We create a nurturing environment for children to actively learn more about their bodies and what they are able to do, to develop a positive sense of self and to interact and share space effectively with others.

Movement Improvisation

Movement improvisation can feel liberating, especially if there is little room in our day-to-day for freedom of expression. We provide space for children and adults to enjoy improvising as individuals, as classmates, as family units, and as a community.

Safe Physical Contact

Physical contact can feel satisfying, meaningful, confusing, harmful and everything in between. In our sessions, we promote safe physical contact that opens up opportunities for closer connection, deeper communication and a wider range of movement possibilities.

Respectful Facilitation

In our work, communication and collaboration are fundamental to participation. We practice using respectful language with all whom we share the dance floor with. Healthy boundaries are enforced so that there is a safe space for exploration, expression and connection.
